Dr. D Drives!

Several weeks ago, we found ourselves with a "free Sunday afternoon."
Not a normal occurrence around here, but one that must be maximized
The sun was shining, the skies were crystal blue.
The air was very warm and crisp.
And The Boss and Dr. D had a focus.

Yes, it's that time of year again.
Parallel parking The Gang-mobile between garbage cans.

Over and over and over. Almost all afternoon.

Dr. D's a natural behind the wheel!

I can hardly believe my brown-eyed boy turns 17 soon.
OR that he'll be getting his license in a matter of weeks.
Really, it seems like just yesterday he was zooming around
the backyard on his "Big Wheels" bike
pretending to be "Jake Justice" and saving the world.

Let's just hope real driving experiences
do little to resemble his former "zooming"
OR Jake's roaring to the rescue!

Pancake Protest

It was a big weekend for The Gang. We had a delightful day on Saturday with most of my family in town sharing a meal together. The Boss filled and hid the kids' Easter baskets and Li'l Empress really got into it this year. She was delighted with her stash. Worship at church was so refreshing, and Li'l Empress even spent some time in her 2 & 3 year old class while I sat in the perimeter of the room. She participated in everything the other kids did, keeping a watchful eye to see that Momma was still lurking nearby. That was great progress for us!

The rest of our Sunday was quiet, with The Boss puttering around working on little projects toward finishing the kitchen. The kids played in the sunshine. I napped on the couch between chapters in my book and picking through my Easter candy. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the peaceful, low-key day together.

UNTIL.

Until I hopped on F@cebook while the kids were watching Extr&me H*me M@keover and spied an internet rumor that Baby BlueEye's beloved Donovan McNabb was being traded to the Washington Redskins.  It all went downhill really fast from there.

It took a minute for Baby BlueEyes to process the news, which I broke as gently as I could once Dr. D and I verified the rumors. Once it sunk in, he cried off and on for the rest of the night. Judging from his puffy red eyes this morning, I think the poor little fan cried himself to sleep.

And this morning, he's still glum. Still morose.  Still feeling "done wrong" by the Eagles franchise.

He has gone activist on me. In support of his beloved #5 and in protest of the (in HIS opinion) lousy business decisions of the Eagles leadership, this is what I found on his plate this morning at breakfast.

I must add, that his views are not representative
of the whole Gang.
The rest of us are taking a "wait and see"
approach to this move.

Wordless Wednesday

Baby BlueEye's art work
makes me feel better.
Especially when it's
a mini- jersey of #81.

Hard Day for Eagles Fans

It is a sad, ugly day for Eagles fans all over the country. The roar of frustration in the air over Philly is almost tangible. We are in mourning here at The Gang's house.

Late breaking news is that Brian Dawkins, quite possibly the heart and soul of the whole Eagles franchise, has signed a five-year deal with the Denver Broncos.

While we certainly wish this godly man the very best in his new career path, we are incredibly sad for our own loss. Not only is he a passionate player who leaves EVERYTHING on the field, he was very active in local charities and was a great role model of integrity and "family first" for thousands and thousands of fans. For my boys.

And the man can rock the tats. I'm just sayin' . . . .

Sunday afternoons of Eagles football and hanging with my gang just won't be the same.

Happy Day for the Gang!

In the midst of a weekend full of fevers, ER runs (Don't worry, it's not appendicitis. Apparently, it's constipation. Don't ask!), fizzled snow storms, and de-Christmas-ing the house, the Gang had a happy afternoon. Our Eagles are going to the NFC Championships. No dumb luck about it. Not a ton of long passing and outstanding runs, but a good game fought down to the nitty gritty.

And in the middle of it all, our newest Eagles fan joined in the fun. After a long, cozy nap, of course!

And so now it's on to Arizona. Where no doubt, warmer hands will be able to handle the ball with more finesse. And maybe Westbrook can break free for a long-awaited, glorious, in-your-face touchdown run. If we're really lucky, maybe my beloved "Dawk" will get an interception too!

Fly - Eagles - Fly!

Advancing!

It's a good night to be an Eagles fan.

26-14 over the Minnesota Vikings.

Mmmmm, Mmmmmmm.

Giants, here we come!

Sad Fans Here Today

I had a conversation with Baby BlueEyes this morning about the talk going on surrounding Donovan McNabb's benching at half-time yesterday. It's been a rough season for this Eagles lovin' gang - we're all frustrated with the games and with the speculation. I was trying to prep him for the possibility that his beloved #5 might not be starting the Thanksgiving game his Thursday night. Apparently, BBE had so much going on in his heart and mind after our conversation that he had to "get it all out." I found this note on the coffee table after he left for school.
Eagles Ha Micknab I just wotid to tal you that I am your bigist fan I have you'er jazey and my mom told me that you whr popley going lew football. and I falt sad very very sad ckaz Im your bigist fan. by micknab see y sun.
Poor little guy. He just doesn't understand that football is a business. Or that Eagles fans take that business very seriously. He can't fathom that anyone would blame "his" NickNab (what he used to call him before he "grew up!" - yes, that's what he told me) for like 14 interceptions in one game. Well, okay, not 14, but sheesh. Way too many anyway. (Just for the record, I didn't say he was going to "leave football." I said other stuff. But not that!)

And here's the face of another little Gang member who wasn't too happy yesterday. I don't know that it had anything to do with the outcome of the game, but it was a funny face and she was in her Eagles hoodie. It kinda fits how we all felt by the end of the game, that's for sure.
