Several weeks ago, we found ourselves with a "free Sunday afternoon."
Not a normal occurrence around here, but one that must be maximized
The sun was shining, the skies were crystal blue.
The air was very warm and crisp.
The air was very warm and crisp.
And The Boss and Dr. D had a focus.
Yes, it's that time of year again.
Parallel parking The Gang-mobile between garbage cans.
Over and over and over. Almost all afternoon.
Dr. D's a natural behind the wheel!
I can hardly believe my brown-eyed boy turns 17 soon.
OR that he'll be getting his license in a matter of weeks.
Really, it seems like just yesterday he was zooming around
the backyard on his "Big Wheels" bike
pretending to be "Jake Justice" and saving the world.

Let's just hope real driving experiences
do little to resemble his former "zooming"
OR Jake's roaring to the rescue!

You guys still have a parking test? We have something we call a manuverability test I like WAY better! mark a 10 X 20 rectangle. 10 feet from one end and centered you put a 5th post. Pull into the "parking space" and come to a stop with the vehicle in the center of the spot. On the command of "right" or "left" pull the vehicle forward to the right or left of the center post (based on the command) and come to a stop with the back bumper of the vehicle even with the center post. When advised to proceed you must then back the vehicle into the parking space and come to a stop with the vehicle in the center of the spot. 80% required to pass, you loose 5 points for things like stopping outside the center of the spot or with the back bumper of the vehicle not even with the front post, or stopping during the drill (except the three times you are supposed to stop) etc. Touching any of the 5 posts with the vehicle is an "accident" and you fail. No time limit - but a seasoned driver should be able to do this in about 20 seconds!
Good luck Dr. D - loads of freedom - but loads of responsibility! ;)
hugs - aus and co.
